The Foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains
I live about forty-five minutes from Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge Tennessee. This is such a beautiful part of the world. The Little River winds its way down from fresh, natural springs right beside my house. This area is a large valley with the Cumberland Mountains and its plateau on the western side. Flowing through the valley is the Tennessee River that has been damed at several points, creating many large lakes to go boating and fishing. The climate is very moderate, yet an hours drive allows snow skiing in the winter months. North Carolina is just over these Appalachian Mountains. Asheville, NC is a wonderful tourist attraction. You can visit the Biltmore Estate, which is the country's largest home. It was built by the grandson of the great Commodore Vanderbuilt, one of the world's wealthiest men of his time. Also the Cherokee Mountains of North Carolina host a grand Harrah's Casino. And finally, I must mention the nearby town of Knoxville. It is full of life, and yet, gives you that small town atmosphere.
