Both Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airlines have hotels adjacent to the airport. If your direct connecting flight does not leave until the following day, you receive free accommodation in the airline’s four-five star hotel.
Unique Qualities: The airline provides a shuttle bus service from the airport and (if you are only in transit) Japanese immigration gives you a ‘shore pass’ to leave the airport overnight. All very civilised.
The attached photos were taken at the Nikko Narita (JAL) hotel, but the ANA (where I stayed on a prior trip) is very similar: both have similar facilities, shops etc. I rather feel the view from the room at night is better than during the day. The gardens (other photos) are also very attractive and the outdoor garden seemed to draw many visitors.
