"Lagny-sur-Marne" Lagny by tiabunna
Lagny Travel Guide: 8 reviews and 16 photos
Some many years ago in Canberra, we became friends with a French couple and their family. We’ve stayed in touch since they returned to France and catch up when visiting each other’s country. Our friends now have moved to the town of Lagny-sur-Marne, a very pleasant place with a population of about 20,000, situated some 30km east of Paris on the Marne River. It was a foregone conclusion that we’d visit them while in France.
Lagny goes back to mediaeval times, when it would have been a rural village: now it is part of the commuter area around Paris. This won’t be a large page, but I hope it gives some feel for a very pleasant area, so near to a major metropolis, yet so different – and worthy of a visit.
- Pros:A very pleasant place
- Cons:None noticeable
- In a nutshell:Very habitable

Hi George, researching 2010 trip to Europe. Will take Paris apartment for 7days and looking for day trips(train). Any other recommendations?
If I hadn't known you were in France, this page could have described a day out from London along the Thames (real Ratty territory) ...even down to the hassles of getting there!
French villages always look so quaint & charming- as does Lagny. The river looks beaut. I had a laugh reading your transport tip- THAT is what happens sometimes in India when catching trains! LOL!
Could go here I suppose on day trip, but what if I get lost ;-)
I hope that TV-news which we watch these days from Paris surbubs and area don't touch Lagny - beautiful medivial town where your friends live. Thanks George for the virtual tour!
Boating on the river Marne is a great adventure for sure, I always wanted to do something similar on the french canals !
How interesting stories and photos from smal village close to big Paris. I enjoy looking at it.
Haha, yes, I am smiling too about your train experience. This happens everywhere I think, here, too. This looks like a pleasant trip you had, seeing friends in this cute village. Haha, I have an appartment to mess around in :-)
What a lovely page, George. Delightful village, excellent tip about the train [I'm smiling], and the photos are wonderful.
Thanks for sending along a bit of small town life...you know I love these little villages. Stone house is a charmer...along with your "leafy walk".
