damascus airport,30 kms from the city,there are cheap buses;
the border with turkey is open,but sometimes,the customs try to steal you at the check-point between antakya and aleppo;try the border between gaziantep and aleppo;
lebanese border is open,but in lebanon there is no syrian consulate,because lebanon is a syrian province according to the syrian government;so ask for a syrian visa before arriving in lebanon!!
the border with jordan is open and you go through very quickly;
the border with iraq has been closed because of a quarrel: the iraqi dictator says he is the saviour of the arab world,the syrian dictator says HE is the saviour of the arab world!
the border is closed of course with israel
trains are extremely slow,you can travel by bus everywhere;there are fast buses:damascus-aleppo,damascus-amman,damascus-beirut,and lattakia-tripoli-beirut;
I heard recently(dec 2001) that the border syria/iraq had re-opened as well as the weekly train alep/deir-ez-zor/mossoul(iraq);I 'm telling you this because I know that you are all impatient to visit iraq !! hahaha----------picture is:aleppo
