I found staying in Cattolica a great experience and I did take a risk going somewhere that doesn't have too much info on what to see or do but was glad with my choice.
Cattolica is situated on the Adriatic coast and a couple of miles away from Rimmini. The town itself is very much built on accomodation and the beach for tourists but the town has something appealing about it.
Out of all the towns and cities I've been to Italy this had the friendliest peopel I've met, they don't think twice about stopping to talk to you about the football shirt you have on or take time to chat and have a joke.
The food is the best I've ever had and the pizzas were amazing especially the big portions and combinations, scampi pizza?
The beach appears to have all the facilities you could need, nightlife isn't big on clubs but thats not what Cattolica is about, Rimmini is best for that.
Cattolica is typical of any Italian town or City where people parade up and down the street and Palazzo's to be seen and it's done with greta effect in Cattolica. The water fountain feature in the centre of the town are different but look great at night when lit up. The main palazzo is host to street entertainers and other artists and it's a great atmosphere to be in. I was lucky enough to attend when they had some sort of musical festival on and the town was buzzing with activity.
Cattollica is situated in a great position you have the amazing countryside of Emilia Romagna and it's culinary delights, Parma, Bologna, Firenze and if you drive up to Chioggia you can catch a boat to Venice for the day.
Cattolica is in prime view of San Marino and can be reached in half an hours drive.
There are a few travel agents in Cattolica that offer a two day excursion over to Croatia, unfortuantely I didn't have time but worth a visit if your there for two weeks.
I quite liked the fact that when I went it was mainly Italians in the resort and very little English people there. English isn't too widely spoken in Cattolica so you might have to brush up on some Italian or even learn a little German as there are quite alot of them there. They are accomodating at restaurants with English menues but asking for anything else might be a problem
- Pros:Great Italian seaside resort
- Cons:Could do with a bit more activity
- In a nutshell:A fine Adriatic seaside resort
