Horseshoe Canyon Unit- Canyonlands National Park Travel Guide: 4 reviews and 16 photos
Horseshoe Canyon is located about 50 miles outside Hanksville, UT. The area is actually a part of Canyonlands N.P. Access is remote but certainly doable by 2wd, high clearance cars. A friend took her Jetta here a week ago.
You come here to hike into the canyon and view the amazing pictographs. These are reported to be the best on the Colorado Plateau and certainly live up to there billing. There are four different panels that you come to while hiking thru the canyon.
Your going to need a lot of water and you should be in reasonable shape.
OK, you ascended 750 ft into the canyon, you hiked 3 miles and this is the reason.
The Great Gallery is probably the finest set of drawings on the Colorado Plateau.
You'll marvel at the artwork and keep thinking about it being at least 2000 years old.
You passed three other panels to get here! and they all were special.

The hike into this requires a 750 ft descent into the canyon. This is easy hiking but you need to come out the same way.... more travel advice

Wow - can't believe yours is the ONLY tip for the Grand Gallery! It's on my list but hear there's a tough lottery system to get a permit. How easy was the trail to follow? Fairly well marked?
I think I even read it, but I forget these things.... on the Canyonlands National Park Page.
Yep, in my Canyonlands pages.
