Illam is located in the eastern part of Nepal in the lap of Mt Kanchenjunga(third highest mountain in the world). It is one of the most popular tourist hubs in Nepal. Travellers looking for trekking should walk up to Mai Pokhari, a holy lake with 9 corners, some 4 hours of walk from the town.
If you like watching sunrise and sunset, you should go to Sri Antu, where sunset and sunrise is beautiful. Another must go place is Sandakpur. It's a base of Mt Kanchenjunga and its a two day walk if you really love trekking or else you can choose a taxi ride for a few dollars.
The town itself is beautiful surrounded by beautiful tea estate.
If you like fishing, you should go to Mai River, a few miles away.
There are three famous temples in this town, Maisthan, Singabahini and Narayansthan.
Other fun places are Biblyate, Fikkal, Namsaling...
