"Great Inagua" Great Inagua Island by saltwaterandsails

Great Inagua Island Travel Guide: 2 reviews and 0 photos

Great Inagua is the most Southern Islands in the Bahamas chain of Isles. It sits in near proximity of Cuba and Haiti. The distance to the Cuban coast is approximately 60 miles.

The island is large but is mostly inaccessable national park lands, and salt ponds filled with Flimingos.

The island's primary industry is involved in the production of Salt. "Morton" is the company that generates the salary of the majority of the population.

Tourist never venture so far south in the Bahamas and the limited facilities, sights and transporation methods (getting to Great Inagua) mean the destination never makes a tourist itinery.

The capital and only settlement is Matthew Town which sits on the South Western cost. The community feels like it is lost somewhere in the history of time and isolated from the rest of the world.

If you want to witness another way of life come here for a day and spend some time with the locals in the only bar burger place in town.
