Getting TO/AROUND: Brisbane airport 's domestic terminal is a relatively small one - but is also fairly modern and has shopping and a range of restaurants and coffee stops. Check in is now made much more efficent by getting your own boarding passes from a range of standing computer terminals in the area before the counters. Simply put in your personal and/or flight details, and out comes a boarding pass.

Needless to say, one of the major carriers is Qantas - our famour flying kangaroo.

However, there are budget airlines aplenty available from Brisbane - Virgin and Jetstar.

Getting TO/AROUND: Saw this little green fellow at the airport recently - a collection box asking for any spare cash for frog research. Made me think about the similar receptacles in airports in Asia - asking for money for the needy PEOPLE causes. He is rather cute though!

Getting TO/AROUND: This fleet of sleek catamarans operates from 5.30am to 10.30pm daily - and the service extends from Brett's Wharf, Hamilton, to University of Queensland, St Lucia. There are 14 stops along the way, including Newfarm Park, Kangaroo Point, Southbank, Riverside and Toowong.

Getting TO/AROUND: The Queensland Rail system in Brisbane travels west as far as Rosewood or Ferny Grove, North as far as Caboolture, East to Eagle Farm and Doomben (or punters!) and South to the Gold Coast. A special service AirTrain, also travels to Brisbane Airport - both domestic and international terminals.

This is an efficient and comfortable rail system, with multiple stops, and some express routes, if you are travelling beyond the city.

Getting TO/AROUND: The fairly new Air Train system to and from the Brisbane Airport, is a comfortable 20 minute electric rail trip. Very efficient transport, but costs AU$12 for a one way trip. So, if there's a group of you, take a cab!

Train stops at Central Station and Roma Street Station - but has the disadvantages of having to carry or manage your own luggage, if you travel heavy!
