Cologne is a revitalized historic city in western Germany. Originally settled by the Romans in 50 AD. Cologne is Germany's fourth largest city after Berlin, Hamburg and Munich. Cologne lies on the River Rhine in the German Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia about half way between Frankfurt and Amsterdam. |
World War II In World War II, 90% of Cologne's buildings were destroyed by Allied (mostly by the Royal Air Force (RAF)) aerial bombing raids. On the night of 30/31 May 1942 Colonge was the target for the first 1,000 bomber raid of the war. |
