Tórshavn (or Thorshavn) is the main port and capital of the Faeroe Islands. It is situated on Streymoy, the largest island of the Faroe Islands. The name means the harbour of Thor, after the Nordic god of thunder. Tórshavn was founded in the 13th century, but it remained only a small village for several centuries thereafter. Tórshavn now houses about one-third of the total population of the Faroe Islands. www.tourist.fo | | |
