Keflavík is town in southwestern Iceland overlooking Faxa Bay. A fishing port and local market centre and the site of an international airport as well as of a U.S. air base, built during World War II and later established as a North Atlantic Treaty Organization base (1951). A paved road 30 miles (48 km) long connects the airfield to Reykjavík. Picture: Not far from Keflavik and maybe 1 hrs. walk from the road to Grindavik is the Hafnaberg, steep cliffs inhabited by seabirds.
