Salmon Rivers

Some of the best salmon rivers in Iceland are located in the district around Bl?ndu?s. Big River Blanda is one of them. Another is the river Lax? ? ?sum (one of the most expensive in the country), a short drive to the south from Bl?ndu?s, and Vatnsdals? in the beautiful valley of Vatnsdalur (Lake Valley), also a short drive south of town. 10 min. drive to the north is another Lax? (=salmon river), small but set in beautiful surroundings. It is the river of my youth as I grew up nearby. Off the beaten path and more northerly is another small river, Hall?. Trout is also plentiful in mountain lakes and rivers.

Golf

About 15-20 years ago the town council of Bl?ndu?s bought a small estate a few minutes drive north of town. This place is called Vatnahverfi (Lake District) because of its many small lakes full of trout. The grounds are very popular for trekking and trout fishing, and of course golfing. Because they built a 9-hole golf course there (par 35).
