La Boca. - Buenos Aires

La Boca.

La Boca

La Boca is the section at the mouth (Spanish: boca) of the Riachuelo River, where the city's first settlers landed. The section is filled with Italian restaurants, and streets such as the Caminito are lined with wooden houses painted in bright, gay colours. La Boca is now an artists' colony, but was the site of the city's first meat salting plants, which brought great wealth to Buenos Aires in the 19th century.

Gardel. - Buenos Aires

Gardel.

Carlos Gardel Tango Review

Carlos Gardel was born in France in 1890. He came to Buenos Aires with his mother at the age of two and was to become the most famous tango singer of all time. Gardel was already a famous singer in Argentina before he turned his attention to tango. For the Porteños (as citizens of Buenos Aires are sometimes called) he was the ideal tango singer, personifying the rise of the tango to the heights of fashionable society. Gardel was killed in a plane crash in 1935.

Maradona.

Football

Football (soccer) is a popular sport all over the world and not least in Argentina. That the national team has two times won the world cup and silver medal two times is a great record. Diego Armando Maradona (b. 1960) is for many a fan the greatest football player ever. He was born and raised in Buenos Aires and he grew up with soccer, nicknamed 'El pibe de oro' (the golden boy). His playing career: Argentinos Juniors, Boca Juniors (Argentina), Bareclona (Spain), Napoli (Italy), Seville (Spain), Newell´s Old Boys, Boca Juniors (Argentina), and of course the national team.
