| | Melaka (Malacca) is located on the West Coast of the Malay Peninsula facing the Straits of Malacca about 150km from Kuala Lumpur. For hundreds of years, the Portuguese, Dutch, and British fought for Malacca's strategic position and its wealth generated from the Asian silk and spice trades. Much of the Islamic mosques and royal palaces, the old architecture of the Portuguese, the Dutch and the Chinese is gone, but still the handful of surviving European buildings, Chinese temples, and old Malacca terrace houses makes this city a very interesting destination. http://www.malacca.net |
