Udaipur, the city of lakes, sometimes called 'the Venice of the East', is one of the most romantic places in India. Udaipur is situated around three clear azure blue lakes, Pichola, Fateh Sagar and Udai Sagar. The lakes are breathtakingly beautiful. The city was founded in 1567 and it was the capital of the Mewar region until India got her independence. The kingdom of Mewar was considered the greatest of all Rajput princely states in Rajasthan. According to legend a holy man told the king to build a palace on a hill overlooking the Lake Pichola. That’s how Udaipur came into being.
