Our trip the Long Tan / Nui Dat turned into one of the worst days of our entire trip. Although we eventually made it to our destination it was not easy.
After paying US$50 each (expensive enough) to conduct a day tour of Long Tan and Nui Dat we were stopped in the vicinity of Ba Ria by our 'escort' into Long Tan. This escort demanded US$20 each to pay off the local police or we could not enter the province. After a great deal of arguing we were told, pay up or the bus will be turned around with no refund payable. We eventually paid up and had to report to the local police and hand over our passports.
The local police officer then handed over the plaque from the Long Tan memorial, which he keeps stashed in his office, so we could have photo's taken at the site.
This saga took several hours and ruined what should have been a good day.
On return to Saigon we complained to our tour organiser who informed us that this was not their problem and they would not do anything about it. BUYER BEWARE!!

At Least Do This: Be prepared to pay the extra cash, we only had about $45 dollars on us and were just able to pay
