When I found out, that the SV-2006 championship would take place in Oberhausen, I was upset a little. The city conglomerate of industrial Ruhr did not promise good arrangement. However I managed to find a hotel in 30 kilometers from Oberhausen in rural green district of Gahlen which was so necessary for walks with dogs.

Gahlen - hotel „Zur Muehle“ - Irina

Gahlen is a small area of Niederrhein in community Schermbeck where live hardly more than 2 thousand inhabitants.

This town is approximately in 20 kilometers from Oberhausen where the World German shepperd championship SV BSZS took place in 2006. This circumstance has brought us to Gahlen.

Gahlen - hotel „Zur Muehle“- Me

Gahlen is situated on the banks of the Lippe. When I searched a hotel near Oberhausen and found a hotel in Gahlen I examined the map of this area and the last argument which made me to come to the final conclusion was the Lippe.

I imagined how we would walk with our dogs around its banks and Gahlen was chosen!

very good website i have great memorys of gahlen in 1988 i stayed in benninghofs when i worked in gladbeck for vetco coating.i am proud to say i loved the place and hope to go back to visit.if it is possible can i say hi to Karl Harmms my chief at vetco

Looks like a lovely place to stay with lots of space for your dogs to run. The family run hotel also looks charming.

Too bad about the pollution of the river, but the rest of the area looks peaceful and relaxing. Bet the dogs really enjoyed it. The hotel where you stayed looks charming. I, too, loved viewing and hearing about the wedding.

This is one of those locations where my dad would love to spend summer holidays... I like the mill and the pond. Good photos and tips, as always!

Very beautiful and relaxing little place, I see. Nice idea with pigeons on wedding ceremony. Great place for Vinika and Pilar, too I am sure :-) Beautiful pictures in travelogues.
