Sumidero Canyon is a narrow and deep canyon surrounded by a national park located just north of the city of Tuxtla Gutiérrez in the Mexican state of Chiapas.
The canyon’s creation began around the same time as the Grand Canyon in the U.S. by a crack in the area’s crust and erosion by the Grijalva River, which still runs through it.
The canyon has vertical walls which reach as high as 1000 meters, with the river turning up to ninety degrees during the thirteen kilometers that the narrow passage runs.
I spent there half a day and want to share my experience and impressions.

The Sumidero Canyon looks very impressive and it must have been great to be in a boat below these steep walls. Good that you saw crocodiles, monkeys and different kind of birds. Too bad about the polution though.
Yes, the Sumidero Canyon impressed me not less the Grand Canyon that I visited this July (including its crocodiles). Thank you Malena for a nice comment!
That looks like a really cool place, I've never heard of it before!
Nice page!
The X-mas tree and the wild life look very interesting!
I had no idea there was such beauty and scenery in Mexico that is also remote to tourists. YOur videos are fantastic and the tips as always wonderful; cowboy
Sergey, fantastic page about your boat adventures in this amazing canyon. I am happy to see that the American crocodiles didn't recognise you. *winkygrin*
