Nalchik is the capital of Kabardino-Balkariya. It is located on Nalchik-river in the pool of Terek. In 1743 it was established on a place of the future city as an aul. In 1822 Russian fortress Nalchik on the Caucasian boundary line was constructed, in 1838 at a fortress the military settlement was transformed in a large village. In 1921 Nalchik received the status of city.
All mountain routes across Kabardino-Balkariya begin in Nalchik. I arrived Nalchik in August 1976 to go to a campaign to Chegem's gorge.
Next time I visited Nalchik before a campaign from Kabardino-Balkaria ti Svanetia through Tviber pass.

Love the photographs in travelogues from 1976, 1982, 1987!! What a wonderful place filled with natural landscapes and the wonders of nature.
Obviously a very scenic area. Nice photos in your tips and travelogues.
