"From Moscow to Nordlingen" Nördlingen by Kuznetsov_Sergey
Nördlingen Travel Guide: 47 reviews and 86 photos
When I saw at the picture the great view of Nordlingen from bird fly I decided to visit this old middle age town.
This town saved its unicue appearence through the centures!
The most striking feature on this medieval Gothic church is its 300-foot bell tower, which towers over the village.
This quaint medieval walled city contains some unusual museums of interest to both adults and children.
Nordlingen combated with Columns fon Ettingen for realization such regal rights, as protection above Jews from 1510 till 1521. It is known, that from XIII century all the Jews in the territory of empire were under personal protection of emperor. In 1356 this right has been transferred to kurfursts. By XV century city councils of imperial cities also have received this regalium. Nordlingen achieved from Maximilian returning of the Jewish city community which have been illegally taken out in the possession. Maximilian and his successor supported city authorities.
FIGHT AT Nordlingen on August, 27th, 1634.
After murder of Vallenstein in 1634 the army of king Ferdinand under command of general Hallas besieged Nordlingen. Swedes did not presume to grasp to Catholics such important city for Protestants. They expected a reinforcement in camp nearby (10 km) from Nordlingen and then decided to go to approach to enemies and to settle down on the road connecting Ulm and Nordlingen. This maneuver allowed Swedes to save up the foodstuffs and to deprive with such opportunity imperial army. However for that time while the Swedish army passed gorge and a wood, imperial armies grasped one of positions which Swedes were going to occupy- Albuk's height. Fight last till late night. However imperial armies passed to powerful counterattack. The army of Protestants was disorganized. The infantry was almost destroyed, and the commander - Gorn was taken in a captivity.

Sergey, lovely little page with brilliant photos of the half-timbered houses in Nördlingen. By the way: it looks like you need an "ö" on your keyboard. *winkygrin*
We are looking at a trip to Munich and Romantic Road, and this would be a stop to see medieval culture. You described the town very aptly and as always informative comments.
The landscape from the belltower is breathtaking on the old Nördlingen city core! All these houses make almost the feeling of Breughel paintings!
I really like the bird's eye view!!! I like climbing tower too :))
