Oberschleissheim - Neues Schloss - Asslan&Irina
We happened to be staying in peaceful surroundings of Munich, bordering on one of Germany's biggest baroque parks – the Schleißheim Schloßpark.

In a suburb of Munchen I advise to get acquainted with Schleissheim (1720-1750). There are three beautuful castles - Old (Altes Schloss), New (Neues Schloss) and Amusing (Lustheim). Castles are located in well-groomed regular park nearby from each other. Castles can be bypassed on foot within several hours.

Chronology of the park
1597
Duke Wilhelm V (reigned 1579-1598) bought the farm "Schleißheim" in 1597. After his abdication the Duke retreated to Schleißheim to live out the rest of his life in piety and religious seclusion.
1617-23
The Old Castle was built according to plans from the king's master mason Heinrich Schön the elder and replaced a simple manor house. Duke Maximilian I (reigned 1598-1651) had it built in 1617-23. It is regarded as a masterpiece of Early Bavarian Baroque.
1684-88
The Prince Elector Max Emanuel of Bavaria commissioned the architect Enrico Zuccalli to build the Jagd- und Gartenschloß Lustheim (hunting and garden lodge) on the occasion of his marriage with the Austrian Emperor's daughter Maria Antonia. Building work started in 1684 and was completed four years later. It was soon hosting sumptuous festivities and magnificent balls.

1701
Prince Elector Max Emanuel had the new castle built as a future residence with reference to the size of the castles in Vienna and Versailles and with a view to the expected imperial dignity. Building began in 1701-1704 according to plans from Enrico Zuccalli and largely completed under Jospeh Effner in 1719-26 after an interruption of many years. Famous artists such as Johann Baptist Zimmermann, Cosmas Damian Asam and Jacopo Amigoni were involved in the sumptuous furnishings. When Max Emanuel was not crowned emperor the residence was not shifted from Munich to Schleißheim.

From 1715
After his return from exile in France, the Prince Elector Max Emanuel commissioned the French landscape gardener Dominique Girard to design the garden parterre and modernise the ornamental shrubbery bed. The side canals with the linden avenue had been built beforehand. Despite various interventions in the 19th century, The Schleißheim Castle Park is one of the few Baroque parks in Germany that has remained virtually unchanged in its basic layout.

The Neues Schloss is a great place and very scenic! I have especially enjoyed your photos with Aslan and the castle but I can understand that the duck was not so happy with Aslan!

You really like palaces! I'm afraid we don't have any in Switzerland but a few castles...
