|  | Alicante is the capital of Costa Blanca. The city consists of three basic parts. Explanada de Espana - palm avenue along the coast of Mediterranean sea. The old Town - Barrio Viejo de Santa Cruz is limited Rambla de Mendez Nunez from the West . Castillo de Santa Barbara is at the top of the White rock - Benancatil. Alicante was based established as the Greek trading colony. Romans named it Luzentum, that is shining (because of a beacon). Arabs altered the name in Al Lucant. However ancient Roman or Arabian constructions was not kept in the city. |

|  | The oldest building is located under the mountain - Iglesia de Santa Matia. The baroque facade of the church was created in the XVIII-th century. There is a museum of art (Museo de la Asegurada) opposite to the temple in the reconstructed building of grain warehouses Casa de la Asegurada. There is a collection of the modern art, including masterpieces of Dali and Moro in the museum. There is Renaissance Catedral de San Nicolas, constructed in the XVII-th century in the center of Santa Cruz. |
