Arle is the capital of Provence. To my shame, nothing heard until then about this city, and the word "Provencal" associated only with mayonnaise and vegetable oil. It has appeared - it was a mistake! |
| | Provence is the historical area of France located at footfils of the Alpes and at the Mediterranean sea. It is one of the most picturesque places of the country - a legendary province of violet lavender fields, juicy green pastures, olive groves.
Provence involved with the beauty and inspired Sesanne and Van Gogh, Matiss and Picasso, Shagale also Renoir. Provencal oil, lavender honey and boundless vineyards - sources of uncountable grades of wines are widely known. There is a global capital of perfumery Grasse where the well-known spirits Chanel #5 are produced. |
| | Large cities which arisen during the Roman sovereignty, played an appreciable role in the Middle Ages. Arles became a stronghold of christianity in the south of France. But owing to section of empire of Charles the Great, in 843 the region departed to kingdom of Burgundy.
The mother country was interested in destiny of surburbs a little and entrusted management of the local nobility - to columns of Anjui and Avinion. Short time Provence even belonged to Catalonia - Barcelonian columns. However as a result of some the political and marriage unions, Provence has taken over king Ren who has found a title Provence column. |
