Francis I sometimes went to Chenonceau accompanied by a small circle of confidants: Eleonora Gabsbourgian - his second wife, a son - Henry, his wife - Ekaterina Medichi, his own lover - Annas de Pissele, and Diana de Poitier - lover of his son.
Hunting departures, holidays, literary evenings a fashion of that time were arranged in the castle.
On the royal custom existed since times of antiquity, the queen was in mourning white color which did not remove till 1601, year of the death, whence there was her name - "White lady". From this time, kings of France left Chenonceau.

I had luck to visit Chenonceau in August of 1995. It was my second Château in Loire Valley.

You can watch my 2 min 56 sec Video Chenonceau Palace and Park out of my Youtube channel.

Henry and Diana? Black swans are natives of Australia - this pair should be called Sheila and Bruce!

This is one area we plan to visit in next couple of years-but maybe Russia first. The lovely castles and your comments help in the decisions. Thank you and well deserved ratings

Even though Chambord was more impressive, I thought Chenonceau was more beautiful and graceful.
