Kaymakli Travel Guide: 20 reviews and 77 photos
Kaymakli is one of the largest underground settlements in the region. The tunnels are low, narrow, and steeply inclined.
It is estimated that this underground city had a capacity of 20,000 people and also their animals.
The underground cities were the place of the hiding of the first Christians who escaped from the persecution of the Roman soldiers and were enlarged to able when were necessary an entire city to live and every kind of fixture necessary for the living of the people has been attached.

Fascinating city this is! I love underground cities, but here I would get claustrophobic I think, with all these people inside. Oh yes, you are right, the dogs are sooo cute, this cute little puppy you found!!
we also visited kaymakli but sadly did not get to the museum. nice cows. nice page too.
Excellent also
Most intriguing. Troglodyte houses are fairly common in various places, but whole cities are something else again. leyle
This is an amazing place that I had never heard of! I am not claustrophobic when alone but a whole group in those tiny tunnels must give an unpleasant feeling. Great page!
oh, these narrow tunnels are painful for the tall people. What I liked most were the millstone doors!
Quite a fascinating place, and quite a history, Sergey. Although I don't have a problem with claustrophobia, I could certainly imagine if could affect some people here.
what an interesting page and great pics bringing back wonderful memories. I think that this part of turkey is one of the most facinating and unique !
The Map shows just how extensive the underground city really is - fascinating. Even an underground stable for the animals.
Unique place. Love your historical background information. Your work is always personable, detailed, interesting, and, best of all, helpful. Those tunnels look like a challenge.
