It is believed by many Christians and Muslims that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken to this place by Saint John and lived in the stone house until her Assumption into Heaven according to Catholics or Dormition according to the Orthodox.
Neither the Roman Catholic Church nor the Greek Orthodox Church has never pronounced on the authenticity of the house. Nevertheless several Popes visited the place and it matters something!

Sorry, this is not the right location: go to the travel guide and click on map. This Meryemana is in NE Turkey. It seems that VT does not have the actual Meryemana. Nevertheless, a great page! |
