  • In 1886 Ludwig's scheming political rivals succeeded in taking over his power; they arrested Ludwig II and put him in the Berg castle on the bank of Lake Starnberg.
On the very next day after the arrest, May 13, 1886, the King's body was found in the lake. The body of this mysterious political assassination's sole witness, Professor Gudden, was discovered near by.

More information is at my Burgthann VT-Travel Page.

    Off The Beaten Path: Linderhof
  • Tip Rating:
  • Lindehof is one among the four most interesting Ludwig's Castles.
In the middle of a severe mountain landscape, in loneliness of valley Grassvangthal, Linderhof Palace was constructed under the instruction of king Ludwig II.
Galleries with the lime arches directly behind the Palace withdraw upwards on abrupt northern slope from strictly ornamental garden-carpet in the form of Burbon lines. Water flows down here downwards cascades, on thirty marble steps, in pool with a fountain decorated by sculptural group of the Neptune.

Lovely page on Bavaria Sergey. I had the pleasure of visiting Castle Neuschwanstein many years ago. It is indeed a fairy-tale castle. The Linderhof also looks impressive. Also thanks for visiting my Genk pages.
