Favorite Thing: Linderhof is one among the three most interesting Castles of Bavarian king Ludwig II. And it’s the only one which was finished when the king was still alive.
In total Ludwig was going to construct seven castles. Only three of them were really built - Neuschwanstein, Linderhof and Herrenchiemsee. It has been spent more than 30 million marks. The treasury of Bavaria has been almost devastated.
In plans there were Falkenstein and also Gothic, Byzantian and Chinese castles. A hunting house Shahen in mountains near Garmish-Partenkirhen sometimes is considered as the forth Ludwig's castle.
Initial plans were born after Ludwig's visiting Versailles in 1867. Later in 1869 he got possession around Linderhof where his father, Maximilian II, owned a hunting lodge. Under direction of the royal architect George Dolman "the Royal country house" was constructed in 1870.
It was not a representation building. It was more likely a personal refuge, as a place of solitude for the king who left from the real world into his own virtual world of unreality.

Favorite Thing: The landscape garden covers an extensive area and is perfectly integrated in the surrounding natural alpine landscape. There are several buildings of different appearance located in the park.
Gardens were stylized in style of Renaissance baroque. A huge natural landscape garden in English style was transformed by Charles fon Effner in the wonderful image. These gardens represent a witty and delightful uniform landscape gardening product.
All the gardens and the park occupy the area approximately in 58 hectares divided as follows: Groups of trees - 5,2 hectares Large forest - 33,0 hectares Lawns - 18,3 hectares Beds - 0,1 hectares Paths - 2,4 hectares The cut green hedges - 0,8 hectares
It is very difficult to bypass parks and gardens during one day. Usually tourists manage to examine the basic sights of park designated on the scheme.
