Restaurant Name: traditional&local Egyptian drink
Sugarcane is one of Egypt's premier crops. You can clearly see that all around the country. I found that the best sugarcane juice is one that's processed-to-order and only from small, family owned, none restaurant-type establishments that cater to local people instead of to tourists (anywhere in Egypt). These establishments are usually busy, so much so that the server washes each big beer-mug by simply dipping and vigorously shaking it in a bucket of plain water before filling it again for the next customer. I admit it can be disturbingly nauseous and unhealthy to some people. Yet, it's fun, something truly "local" to do, and so far I have suffered no ill effects after doing it multiple times. Plus, it costs only $0.25 or less, a fraction of what restaurants charge for the same thing.

Restaurant Name: Le Plat d'Or
If you're into Agatha Christie, then you must come and spend even just a little time in this hotel and have a cup of tea and a pastry. The hotel, I was told, was restored to its former glory, with almost everything refurbished to keep it in its original condition and placement. The lobby was airy, with old-fashioned windows and curtains typical of the British Empire age. Complementing the formal look of the lobby was the well-dressed customers, including the children, lounging around having their own cup of tea and whatever else. In short, you need to slightly dress up to avoid looking out-of-place. Despite being dressed as if we were about to go hiking, my fellow traveller and I managed to have a nice, relaxing time.
Favorite Dish: We spent about an hour here. The ordering process, as well as checking out, was slightly slow. The prices, however, were decent considering the restaurant/coffee shop was located inside a relatively expensive hotel. We ordered French pastries, which were equally decent.
