Academy of Sciences of Moldova

Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Moldovan is an Academia de Stiinþe a Moldovei. It is the main scientific centre of the Republic of Moldova, which coordinates research in all areas of science and technology. It is also the regulating body for the Romanian language in Moldova.

Cathedral of St. Tiron the Martyr

The Cathedral of St. Tiron the Martyr (called in Moldavian: Catedrala Sf. Mare Mucenic Tiron) was built in 1856. The Cathedral also includes its convent - the building where nuns live, the well to obtain water from it and the shop where you can buy Orthodox souvenirs.

Sate University of Moldova

The State Univeristy of Moldova was founded in 1946. On the occasion of 55 anniversary of the Moldova State University, the Government conferred it the status of National University. Nowadays, the University consists of 13 faculties and 54 departments with 80 specialties and specializations. There are 16,5 thousand of graduate students and 650 post-graduate students in the University.

Water Tower Water Tower Review

The water tower (Castelul de apa) was built in 1882. It was designed by A. Bernardazzi. Now it is a Museum of the City (Muzeul orasului).

Stefan cel Mare Park Stefan cel Mare Park Review

This very nice and small park. The entrance to the park features a monument dedicated to Stefan cel Mare (Stephan the Great). It has minimum four interesting things to see: the fountain in the middle of the park; Stefan the Great and the Saint Monument; Stefan the Great and the Saint Public Garden with Calssics' Alley and Alexandr Pushkin Monument. What is more, it is always nice to seat and rest.:)

Piata Marii Adunari Nationale

Piata Marii Adunari Nationale is the biggest square in the city. There are some interesting places to visit around the square: National Government, Arch of Triumph (designed by L. Zauskevici in 1841), the Cathedral and Stefan cel Mare Park. On national holidays and on the City’s Day in the biggest square a series of manifestations and cultural mass manifestations are organised. This is also the place where citizens of Chisinau welcome New Year.

Governmentt of the Republic of Moldova

Government of the Republic of Moldova (Governul) is located in a very nice place, in the biggest square of the city - Piata Marii Adunari Nationale. The Government's role is to carry out the domestic and foreign policy of the State and to apply general control over the work of public administration.

Parliament of the Republic of Moldova

The Moldovan parliament, or Parlament, has 101 seats, and its members are elected by popular vote every 4 years. In 2005 elections won Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova (almost 46%). Two other parties in Parliament are: Electoral Bloc “Moldova Democrata (BMD) (28%) and Christian Democratic Peoples Party (CDPP) (9%). Marian Lupu is a chairman of the Parliament.

Stefan cel Mare Monument Statue of Stefan cel Mare Review

Stefan cel Mare (Steven the Great) Monument is located near the main gate to the park of his name. Stefan cel Mare was a Moldavian leader who defended his people against invading armies in the 15th century. The Monument is in bronze and it is popular place to make a photo for Moldavian tourists.
