The village of Ivancea is known because of its Museum of Popular Art (called also Ethnographic Museum). The Museum is situated in a building which used to be the house of an Armenian noble called Karp Balioz. The house was built in 1852-1873.
The museum presents a permanent exhibition of national Moldavian art. One gallery represents samples of red and black pottery of different shapes from dishes to toys. Wooden objects had a wide and varied use in Moldova in the past, and craftsmen were very well known abroad too. Another gallery shows us in detail craftsmen’s skill in stonework: columns, stone-flowers, chimneys, and others to be found in Orhei and Soroca. Moldavian craftswomen were very good at embroidery and at carpet making. The next gallery is dedicated to the national clothes from different ethnic groups present in Moldova. In the past people were very skilled in leather and horn work. The last gallery presents a collection of musical instruments well known to our national musicians.
The Museum is not the only interesting place to see in Ivancea. The village seems to be very nice and interesting. There is a lake, eye-catching church and a cemetery. Inancea is a good example of traditional villages in Moldova as there are really nice houses in light - blue colour and lots of wells...

Piotr, fantastic page about this off the beaten path gem. Moldova is still on my must visit list. I am looking forward to meeting you in Krakow next year.
