Canberra is small as for the capital. It has about 300 thousand citizens. Most of them work in all kind of offices, starting from the goverment, organisations, institutions or diplomatic missions. What is very interesting Canberra was disigned artificially at the beginning of XX century. It is said that Sydnay and Melbourn had an argument about which of them should be the capital city. Finally, Canberra has been built on the way from Sydney to Melbourn or vice versa. Some people believe that the places shows that Sydney had and has a stronger positions as canberra is much closer to Sydney than to Melbourne.

| | The native people in Australia are Aborigens - propably the oldest group in the world. Now you can meet them near the "old" parliament where they have their permanet tent embassies. From this place all their requests to the government are coming from. |

Thanx for your story... | junecorlett Fri May 29, 2009 16:00 UTC Thanks for Canberra | matcrazy1 Sat Oct 21, 2006 10:47 UTC Interesting information on aborigines celebrations, nice pictures. | tiabunna Mon Feb 20, 2006 05:26 UTC G'day Piotr. I'm glad you enjoyed your time in Canberra, it shows through in your page. Canberra might lack the "glitz" of some places, but I'd consider that a "positive". It deserves a much better image than some people give it. |
