Century-Old Churches

Cebu Province, being the cradle of Christianity in the Philippines, every town has an old church building having unique designs from each other. Preserving and restoring their original features and architectural styles are obviously been painstakingly done. The colonizing Spaniards in the 16th-19th century had really made ways in spreading the faith in every town/village throughout the Visayas islands. Nothing more concrete in doing it than building up churches in every town center there is.

Heritage Village -Carcar, Cebu

Bahay na Tisa

Be fascinated with the great number of well-preserved century-old houses in the town poblacions-obviously built during the Spanish colonizing years. The Heritage Street in Carcar boasts of a dozen of these houses which are generally made of stones mined within nearby areas.

Still livable, these big family houses are now presently occupied by the 4th generation (or even younger) of the families.

Architectural Details.

Windows w/ Canopy.

The windows, doors, awnings, arches, roofs details are amazingly incredible. The artistic details of the cornices and ornates are so intricate that leave me wondering how long the time of work were put on to create such a work-of-art , these houses are, many decades ago.

Beautiful pictures of churches esp the Boljoon (looks like a Bohol church) and Minglanilla (looks like Baguio church). Have gone to Cebu several times but only checked the usual routes. Thanks and give my regards to Mayet and your kids.

Great page! The Carcar church is very interesting, kind of the opposite of the mosque that looks like a church in Galle, Sri Lanka.
