My son and I spent a week with friends on this lovely little island. We hired bikes on two of the days and cycles all around the island (only about 17-25 miles depending which route you take). All around the island there are wonderful beaches - we liked the ones to the south of the Island best as they were more difficult to reach and therefore more quiet. For those interested in history there are various forts around the island with some quite interesting history to them (I seem to remember that much anyway!).
Living near to an Island (Arran) which has a poplulation of only 5000, I was amazed to hear that they have managed to packabout 8 times that population on an island that is a third of the size. There are houses scattered almost all over the island and very few open areas, but it is more like one big villiage and even St Petersport (the main town) feels more of a villiage than a town. |
