CHILDHOOD SUMMERS

My mother is from Bohol. When I was in elementary and high school, all of my summers would be spent in Bohol. We stayed at my grandparents' house in Dao, Tagbilaran City.

It's a classic provincial vacation, and I mean that in a positive way. We would play 'bahay-bahayan,' climb trees, get fresh buko juice (straight from the tree!), drink sweet 'tuba', play patintero on the streets at night, long walks to the beach, attend fiesta celebrations, participate in Flores de Mayo, nightly rosary. I also learned to bike in Bohol.

While most people love Bohol for all the beautiful natural wonders, I cherish it for all the wonderful childhood memories. :)

Visiting Tiyo and Tiya

I have a lot of relatives in Bohol. When we go there to visit, a lot of time is spent hopping from one house to another, saying hello to relatives. :)

OTHER RELATIVES

We also visit dead relatives in Bohol. My Mother makes it a point to drop by the cemetery and light candles in graves.
