Flew into Johannesburg, SA and after renting a car drove north via Pretoria and onwards toward the border. Amazing views along the way - especially route north from Pretoria via Rustenburg. Very much like the desert Southwest parts of the United States.
My travel colleagues and I spent the night in Mochudi as a friend of ours was doing development work there before continuing on north via Francistown to Kasane where we spent 3 nights.
The drive north across Botswana is amazing. Once you get to the north you will have an excellent chance of seeing wildlife - elephants and giraffes on the road!
Only difficulty was the many "checkpoints" along the way. I would also strongly encourage anyone who attempts this route not to drive at night as the animals tend to congregate on the roads (for warmth) and it can become very dangerous. |
