This budget type hotel is ideally situated in the museum quarter just across the road from the Reijksmuseum. The hotel occupies a traditional Amsterdam town house complete with steep narrow staircases - I was lucky, Mohammed (the chef) was on hand to take my bags up to the first floor.
I booked a single room for one night as a stopover. I arrived quite late at night but got a really friendly welcome on arrival. The reception staff gave me a streetmap of Amsterdam and also pointed out a few of the tourist attractions. As the hotel was fairly empty during the time of my stay I was offered a luxurious double en-suite room for the same price as the single. I was shown the single room which I had originally booked, this was a smallish room with a bed & a dressing table with shared facilities across the corridor - for 52 Euros you can't go wrong.
The double room I stayed in was roomy, warm & cosy. I was given a choice of rooms as the rooms at the front of the hotel have a balcony and lovely views but are a bit noisier than the rooms at the back due to the trams. I opted for the room with a view, the noise from the Trams didn't really bother me that much - you soon get used to it! The decor is a bit dated but this added to the charm of the hotel. There is also a free alarm call - the Reijksmuseum's clocktower - it's only a stones throw away & ensures that you wake up to some lovely traditional chimes.
The breakfast room of the hotel is on the ground floor down a flight of narrow steep stairs - if mobility is a problem, this hotel is not for you. I digress... Breakfast was of the continental variety during my stay but I believe cooked brekkie is on the menu normally. I was offered a ham, cheese, smoked salmon, boiled eggs as well as cereal, bread, jam & honey on the tables there was also a tea/coffee machine for you to help yourself to a beverage.
Overall I really enjoyed my short stay here due to the cleanliness and cosy nature of the rooms and the friendliness of the staff.
Unique Qualities: Traditional town house - no double glazing here!
