"Enchanting Conwy" Conwy by Myfanwe

Conwy Travel Guide: 153 reviews and 590 photos

Conwy is a fascinating place. It is situated in the Northern tip of the Snowdonia National park on the banks of the River Conwy. The Castle at Conwy is strategically placed on the banks of the river dominating the skyline and can be seen from far and wide, it is amongst the finest surviving medieval fortifications in Britain and is by far the best Castle I have ever seen. Spanning the length of the river from the Castle are some fabulous bridges, the pedestrian suspension bridge was designed by the famous engineer Thomas Telford.

Conwy town itself is encapsulated by the town walls, which are the finest example of a bastide (walled borough ) in Britain. Conwy Castle and Town Walls were designated a World Heritage site in 1987. Visitors can walk along the Town Walls to get commanding views of the town, the River Estuary and out to sea where you can see as far as the Great Orme, Llandudno.

Situated on the Conwy estuary, there is a vibrant fishing community and bustling waterfront at Conwy. You can take sightseeing boat tours from the quayside or just sit and watch the world go by.

To add to the beauty of Conwy this lovely town is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery Wales has to offer.

Conwy has many historic buildings within it's town walls. It boasts the oldest house in Wales, the finest Elizabethan manor house in Britain and also the smallest House in Britain! - Not bad for a relatively small Castle town.

I'd been told about Conwy by a friend and in your pics it does look great. The suspension bridge leading to the castle is a great image.

Would love to go exploring here! Lovely photo's of the castle, and the gorgeous views from it. The smallest house would be interesting, I saw the smallest shop in Vancouver.

We've been to Conway many times but PlasMawr has passed us by. Thanks for the tip, Mrs Davesut really enjoys furnished rooms, I think she sees the castles as a load of old junk, but I think that joint ticket is worth buying next time.
