After spending our first night of our New Zealand holiday in Christchurch we picked up our campervan from Escape and headed north to Kaikoura. We were amazed at the beautiful scenery along the way and especially the way the mountains meet the sea. Kaikoura is a maori name which translates to "meal of crayfish". kai - meaning "food" and koura - meaning "crayfish".
This pic was taken just outside of Kaikoura and caught our attention as it was quite sunny minutes earlier and the clouds seemed to come from nowhere.
The reason Kaikoura was on our itinerary. Whale watching. Absolutely amazing. A must do activity in New Zealand and we highly recommend the whale watch at Kaikoura. We saw 3 sperm whales and approx 1000 dusky dolphins.
- Pros:Lots of sealife.
- Cons:Can be cold and windy
- In a nutshell:A great place to get wet !
