"Queenstown - Xtreme Sports Capital of the World" Queenstown by 2Cities1Love

Queenstown Travel Guide: 630 reviews and 1,670 photos

Queenstown has everything. Amazing scenery. Snow skiing in winter. Lake Wakitipu for water sports. Bungee jumping. Jet Boating. Paragliding and much more. It truly is the extreme sports capital of the world. And it also has more sedate, but still fun, activities for the not-so-thrillseekers.

We spent two nights in Queenstown. After arriving from Te Anau we checked into Queenstown Lakeview Holiday Park and proceeded to have a look around. Checked out the market at harbour front. We did a cruise on the TSS Earnslaw at 2pm. After that we had a look at the -5 Bar at Steamer Wharf, wandered around town, took lotsa pics and then headed up to the Gondola Restaurant for dinner to finish off a magnificint day.

Lake Wakitipu

Queenstown is built on the shores of Lake Wakitipu which is 80km in length, at an altitude of 310m and is New Zealand's third largest lake. With the Remarkables on one side on Bob's Peak on the other, Queenstown is the picture perfect spot.

The Remarkables

The reason behind the name "The Remarkables" is that the colour & texture of the mountains change with the sun. And it's awesome to see, we were amazed that at time they had a crushed velvet look about them.
