Seattle is known for its rain. But when the weather is clear (most frequently July through September) there are some magnificent views to be had from within and just outside the city. You have Puget Sound, the Cascades and its series of volcanic peaks (the tallest and most famous of which is Mount Rainier), and the Olympic Mountains across the water. When the atmospheric conditions are right, the proximity of land and water can create some interesting optical effects, like the "floating mountain" you see above.
When it's not raining, you'll seldom catch a Seattleite indoors. Boating, hiking, mountain climbing, and skiing opportunities abound. Locals are sure to take full advantage.
Sara and I lived in Olympia, just south of here. While Sara visited here in 2006, I've not been here since 2004. On this page, I'll share a few tips and several pictures. Enjoy!
