Ferry to Mykines and other Sørvágur, Faroe Islands Transportation Tips

Getting TO/AROUND: One of the most common reasons to visit Sřrvágur is to take the ferry from there to the beautiful island of Mykines. From Vágar Airport or the Hotel Vágar, it's about a 20-25 minute downhill walk to hte ferry dock. Walk downhill all the way to where the village meets the fjord, then turn left. the ferry dock is just past the Statoil gas station on the right.

During peak season (May - August), ferries run twice daily. Every day, the ferry M/B Brynhild departs from Sřrvágur at 10:20, arriving in Mykines around 11:00 (departing Mykines for the return voyage at 11:10). There is a bus departing Tórshavn at 9:15 that coincides with this ferry (bus fare Kr 90). For day-trippers, the return ferry departs Mykines at 17:20 Monday - Friday, 18:00 on weekends; buses back to Tórshavn will coincide with the late ferry. (this ferry departs Sřrvágur at 16:30 Monday - Friday, 17:10 weekends). Fare is Kr 60 per person each way. There are also unlimited bus/ferry travel cards available: Kr 400 for 4 days, Kr 600 for 7 days.

Getting TO/AROUND: Bus Route 300 serves Sřrvágur on its route to Tórshavn. The bus from Tórshavn departing at 9:15 AM will coincide with the ferry to Mykines. The afternoon ferry departing from Mykines (summer only, weekdays 5:20 PM, weekends 6:00 PM) will coincide with a bus returning to Tórshavn. These buses will arrive/depart from the Mykines ferry dock. All other buses will arrive and depart from the Statoil gas station about 200 meters (yards) from the ferry dock. Note that, if you take the morning ferry from Mykines, you will have to wait about 3 hours until the bus to Tórshavn departs. One way fare between Tórshavn and Sřrvágur is Kr 90. Travel time is 55 minutes to 1 hour.
