Welcome to the National Capital Area

Washington DC

Cherry Blossom Festival 2008
One of the most popular tourist destinations in the USA is Washington, DC. The site of the Nation's Capital was selected by George Washington himself, though he was the only president never to serve there (the capital was in New York and Philadelphia during his term of office).
Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument

Lots to Do

I'm sure you're all familiar with the Smithsonian, the Washington Monument, the Capitol, the White House, etc. But if I can pull you away from the big sites and the souvenir stands selling those kitchy "FBI" and "CIA" hats, there are a whole lot more things to see that can give you a bit more understanding of American culture and what Americans consider important.
The Lincoln Memorial at night

Lots to see

There is no shortage of sights to see, both day and night. Even though I saw these sights every day when I used to work in the area, I never got tired of them. I also left with a still-unfinished list of things to do here.

Well Done! Thank you. Directions and fees are always appreciated. Moreso are the cogent remarks about what will be seen and from what angle to see it.

Yours is one of the most helpful pages about Washington D.C. on VT. Very precise with great directions and insights. I have to return to see what was not there in 1994. Thanks ever so much for such fine work.
