A Beer! | A pint of Green Islands Stout |
“You can’t have a real country unless you have a beer and an airline — it helps if you have some kind of a football team... but at the very least you need a beer.” — Frank Zappa
On this page, I will provide evidence the Faroe Islands fit the definition of a real country (as specified by noted national sovereignty expert Frank Zappa).
Exhibit A: The Faroes has its own beer brewery. Föroya Bjór produces an assortment of surprisingly good brews. My favorites were the Black Sheep Ale and the Green Islands Stout (shown above). |
| | An Airline! Exhibit B: Atlantic Airways. The Faroese national airline, based at Vágar Airport, serves an impressive number of countries, including Iceland, Denmark, Norway, and the United Kingdom. |
| Faroese National Team's home pitch |
| | A Football Team! Exhibit C: The Faroes have a football team. The Faroese National Team participates in international matches all around Europe. Here's a glimpse of their home stadium.
There you have it: The Faroe Islands qualify as a real country. QED. |

Especially the language one! ;) | nicolaitan Mon Feb 4, 2008 15:32 UTC I now know something about these exotic islands - imagine it gets awfully cold here. Learn from VT. Nice interesting page. Very dark beer in large glasses - noted with appreciation. N. | christine.j Sat Aug 25, 2007 06:56 UTC Very interesting information about the language! The library sign has "bok" in the middle, so maybe this means book?? It's good to know that you can get along with English, though. |
