Things To Do: Tórshavn

  • Tórshavn is the capital of the Faroe Islands and its largest community. With its restaurants, shops, pubs, and facilities, it makes for a good home base for touring or hiking. Tórshavn is the hub for the national bus service. It is also the arrival point for the Smyril-Line international ferry from Iceland, the Shetland Islands, Denmark, and Norway.

For more information, take a look at my Tórshavn page.

    Things To Do: Nólsoy
  • Tip Rating:
  • A short ferry ride from Tórshavn is the bucolic island of Nólsoy. A quiet fishing village provides a springboard for a number of hikes and walks, affording tremendous views of the surrounding islands. It is possible to stay overnight here if you wish. Opportunities abound for viewing puffin and storm petrels as well; the Nólsoy tourist office has the details if you're interested.

For further information, take a look at my Nólsoy page.

Directions: The M/F Ritan makes the 20-minute journey from Tórshavn several times per day. The ferry departs Tórshavn from the Bursatangi dock in the eastern harbor, about 150 meters (yards) from the bus station.

    Things To Do: Mykines
  • Tip Rating:
  • Perhaps the most delightful destination in the Faroes is the westernmost island, Mykines. While it is rather difficult to get to, it is definitely worth it. There are a number of hiking trails which provide tremendous views, as well as allow you to get quite close to sheep, pink-footed geese... and puffin. especially puffin.

For more information and photos, take a look at my Mykines page.

I now know something about these exotic islands - imagine it gets awfully cold here. Learn from VT. Nice interesting page. Very dark beer in large glasses - noted with appreciation. N.

Very interesting information about the language! The library sign has "bok" in the middle, so maybe this means book?? It's good to know that you can get along with English, though.
