Back After 7 Years

I'm back in Helsinki after a long time. Lots has changed, as VTer Gil was showing me. Stay tuned for some updates! :)

My expertise on Helsinki is encapsulated in the roughly 8 hours Sara and I spent here while waiting for our Silja ferry to make its return voyage to Stockholm. We managed to stroll around the city, as well as see Seurassaari folk museum and Suomenlinna Island. It seemed like quite a nice city -- we wouldn't mind returning here someday.

From Helsinki's main market, it's an easy ferry ride to Suomenlinna Island. The main park is a nice place to enjoy a picnic lunch and relax. It's also fun to stroll around and explore hidden corners.

Suomenlinna used to serve as the primary bastion of defense for Helsinki Harbor. As we strolled around the island, we did see a frigate docked. We got the sense, however, that it was not being counted on as the backbone of Finnish coastal defenses.

    Not bad for only few hours in Helsinki, others might see only coffee shops and do some shopping.
