Land of Contradictions | Ancient Rome and Modern Traffic |
One of the most fascinating -- and frustrating -- aspects of Rome is the juxtaposition of the ancient ruins and the noisy, chaotic sprawl of the modern Italian capital. It is certainly an experience not to be missed... but it's not for the faint of heart. Rome is as enjoyable as it is intense -- like a fine Islay malt whisky. It should be enjoyed the same way: slowly savored and in small doses. |
| Saint Peter's, Vatican City |
| | Vatican City Even if you're not religious, a trip to Vatican City is a must. Wander around in what's technically an independent country, and admire the magnificent architecture. It's almost impossible not to be spiritually moved, no matter what your beliefs. |
| A Funny Thing Happened... |
| | Ancient Rome Another experience, even for the shortest trip, is to take the so-called "Caesar Shuffle" among the ruins of ancient Rome. Marvel at what is left, and imagine what it must have been like 2,000 years ago. |

SLLiew Thu Feb 15, 2007 02:07 UTC Rome is amazing place. Bring back memories. Great tip about buying ticket elsewhere for Colloseum to avoid long queue. | alucas Fri Sep 8, 2006 23:54 UTC I never quite felt comfortable near the station either - but elsewhere was OK apart from the traffic. |
