From Paris, we worked our way via Annecy to the French Alps. It was a noteworthy transition from the manmade beauty of Paris to the raw, natural splendor of Mont Blanc. I've had few experiences like it. |

|  | L'Aiguille du Midi One of the most popular things to do is the gondola ride to l'Aiguille du Midi, a magnificent mountaintop station that affords an up-close-and-personal look at Mont Blanc, as well as stunning views of the Alps. From l'Aiguille du Midi, you can change for another gondola to Pointe Helbronner, on the French-Italian border. If you want, you can even take a gondola down from Helbronner into Italy. Sadly, it was too windy when we were there, so the Helbronner gondola was closed. The views we got were not a bad consolation, though. |
| | Hiking! The area also affords some of the best hiking in Europe. The variety and number of trails is mind-boggling. We had only two days, so we had to choose carefully. I think we did OK... |
