GOKCEADA--THE ISLAND OF PEACE AND CALM Gokceada with its boundless, sandy beaches, clean sea is a wonderful beauty in which the past and present live together. There are churches, mosques, monasteries, old houses and modern examples of architecture where the different cultures come together in this island. It is possible to have a pleasure of blue sea on Aydincik, Yuvali, Yildizkoy, Ugurlu and Gizlikoy natural beaches and also have a picnic in Tepekoy Cinaralti and Marmaros picnic area. It has been reported by the scientists that the density of sulfur in Salt lake around Aydincik during the summer season helps for those who have rheumatic, calcinosis and psoriasis illnesses. Because of island's windy weather, island is suitable for tracking sport.
According to the legend the name of Imbros comes from ancient Greek and means "Windy Island" Because of this it is also a suitable place for windsurfers. It is possible to hunt different kinds of wild animals like partridges, wild rabbits, woodcocks and finches. It is worth tasting thewines produced in the island.
According to the archeological excavations , the first signs of the living were 5000 years ago. On the other hand the coast between Kalekoy and Kuzulimam has been accepted as "National Underwater Park" by TUDAV. The visitors might have nice time having the facilities such as "Gokceada Film Festival" celebrated in open-air in August. Transportation to the Island is via sea. As it could be transported by a ferry from Canakkale sea port, everday It is also possible to reach to the Island from Kabatepe Sea port. During the summer season there are two ways of going by the two private boats which belongs to the municipality Island is also open for civilian avitition with its 1200 meters lenght pist. Island is a lovely resort with its calm, beautiful and clean nature. It will also be opened for yatch tourism after completing the Marina near Kalekoy |
|  | Kalekoy , center of the island Gökçeada, one of the biggest of Turkish islands, is surrounded by gulfs. There are holy streams and monasteries at the peaks covered with pine and olive trees with different tones. Scheduled, regular ferry voyages are organized here from Çanakkale and Kabatepe. Gökçeada (Kuzu port), is 32 miles away from Çanakkale according to the followed route, 14 miles to Kabatepe port in Gallipoli peninsula, 33 miles to Bozcaada, 16 miles to a Greek island, Limni in Aegean sea, 14 miles to Semadirek island. It is one of the richest islands of the world in connection with fresh water resources. Diving tours are organized to the bays of the island.
Kale koy is the centre of the island. beautiful sandy beaches and warm people make this place unforgetable. also this town is a modern town. inner parts of the island more characteristic, stone houses and traditional village life can be seen in this villages. OLD HOUSES houses of Gokceada will take your breath away! I was totally lost with this houses. there are so many nice, colourful and characteristic liitle village houses. Most of their owners are living abroad. they use their homesjust for month of less than it in a year. these houses looks little sad but they are impressing. This one is in village called "yukari bademli" i stopped right front of it and watched it perhepa one hour :) |  | | A house in Yukari Bademli |
